MP FOR NINGO PRAMPRAM JOINS HIS CONSTITUENTS IN PRAMPRAM TO CELEBRATE GHANA'S 68TH INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY
Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram joined his constituents in the Municipality to celebrate this year’s 68th Independence Anniversary of Ghana with an emphasis that the current government will work tirelessly and bring development to the grassroots.
On March 6, 2025, the Anglican School Park at Prampram, in the Ningo-Prampram Municipal Assembly, played host to a grand celebration marking Ghana’s 68th Independence Anniversary. The event, held under the theme “Reflect, Review, and Reset,” brought together constituents from all corners of the two traditional areas to commemorate the country’s transition from colonial rule to self-governance.
The event drew a diverse range of dignitaries, including Honorable Samuel Nartey George, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ningo-Prampram Constituency and Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations. Other notable attendees included Mrs. Vida Awuku, Municipal Coordinating Director, and Mrs. Solace Osei Appiah Municipal Director of Education, as well as representatives from Security Agencies, the Health Directorate, Assembly Members, Assembly Staff, The Clergy, Traditional Leaders, Teachers and Students.
The three-hour celebration, which commenced at 7:30am, kicked off with a dignified inspection of the cadets, who were impeccably dressed and organized by their teachers and cadet commanders. This was followed by a welcome address from the chairman, Numo George Tetteh Lartey (Divisional Chief of Larkpleh), who set the tone for the occasion by emphasizing the significance of the day.
The main highlight of the celebration, featured eighteen (18) schools, showcasing their unique spirit, energies and pride. The participating schools included eight ( Public Basic Schools, two (2) Private Basic Schools, one (1) public Senior High School cadet, one (1) Public Basic School cadet and six (6) Private School cadets, as well as the singing band from the Methodist Church, Prampram. The students, dressed in their school and cadet uniforms, marched proudly, waving national flags while displaying their school banners.
The MP, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, who delivered the keynote speech, emphasized the need for economic and social independence in education, health, and community development. He quoted Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s founder and first President which said “the independence of Ghana is meaningless unless it is linked up with the total liberation of Africa.” He reflected on Ghana’s journey to independence, highlighting the sacrifices made by the country’s forefathers. He acknowledged the progress made in these areas but noted that there was still much work to be done. He pledged that he and his government would work tirelessly to bring development to the doorstep of all Ghanaians, ensuring that everyone has access to quality education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
The Municipal Coordinating Director, Mrs. Vida Awuku, emphasized the crucial role of community development in achieving true independence. She stressed the need for collective effort and collaboration among constituents to drive developments and to build stronger communities. “By working together, we can build a peaceful and better nation for ourselves and future generations”.
Mrs. Solace Osei Appiah the Municipal Director of Education, in her welcome address emphasized the importance of education in nation-building. She highlighted progresses made in the education sector and encouraged students to take their studies seriously, as they are the future leaders of the country. She also commended teachers and educators for their hard work and dedication to shaping the minds of the younger generation.
An awards ceremony was held, where the CEO of Tyga Bankz, Mr. Sumaila Agbordeka and his team, presented awards to winners of their maiden Quiz competition held some weeks ago in the municipality among schools. Mr. Bawa presented certificates as well the MP also making cash donations to all participating schools.
The Chairman, Numo George Tetteh Lartey, brought the celebration to a close, noting that the 68th Independence Celebration in Ningo-Prampram was indeed a momentous occasion, one that served as a reminder of the country’s rich history and its continued journey towards progress and development. He reminded the constituents of Ningo-Prampram and the surrounding areas that as they commemorated the day, they were reminded of the importance of unity, cooperation, and collective effort in driving national development and moving the nation forward.
