A total of 26 contingents led by the Ebenezer Methodist Church Brigade Band which put up a spectacular display and marched to the admiration of members present during the 63rd Independence Day Anniversary celebration held at the Anglican School Park in Prampram.
Hon. Jonathan Teye Doku the District Chief Executive in a speech read on behalf of the President of the Republic, congratulated all present in the district for such a day, he reminded them to be diligent in their dealings to keep the peace the district is enjoying especially in this election year, He said the day is a sacred day which needs to be celebrated by all around the country.
The DCE noted with concern the outbreak of the deadly corona virus which is now a medical crisis, the statement said following the outbreak on 7th February, there was the constitution of a high powered emergency response team monitoring developments on daily basis, and are putting the necessary precautionary measures in place, he however encouraged all to revisit the custom of shaking of hands and avoid doing so completely for now, he urged citizens to add prayers to the effort of the government to help improve the situation.
The statement paid homage to those who fought for the Independence of the country, and urged all to continue to protect the good fortune the forefathers left.
Accordingly, the country is in its 28th year of the Fourth Republic, noting that the country has had stable elections and therefore citizens should be proud of the liberal democratic path the country is treading.
Touching on the progress made in the area of improvement in the water system Hon. Teye Doku said 81% of people in Ghana currently now have access to potable water.
In the area of health, The DCE said measles which used to be a leading childhood killer disease is no longer the case and no child has died from measles in the past 17 years.
The DCE said Education has been made easier to access with the introduction of the Free Senior High School.
There has also been drastic improvement in the areas of environment, technology, creative arts, local foods and other sectors.
The statement further encouraged all citizens to build a consensus towards the prosperous, peaceful and happy Ghana.
