The District Chief Executive of the Ningo-Prampram District Assembly, Hon. Jonathan Teye Doku has held an emergency meeting with management and officials from the Health Directorate to devise proactive measures to protect the people in the community against the recent pandemic – Novel Corona Virus or COVID-19. The meeting was also to procure other essential equipment and items for the health workers in order to safeguard all lives in the District.
There is a provision to create holding areas (Isolation Centers) for all suspected cases to reduce physical contact with other patients and health workers. Various schools in the District would also be supplied with hand washing equipment and sanitizers. In line with this COVID-19 prevention, an Information, Education and Communication committee has been setup to speedily embark on vigorous education and sensitization programs on preventive measures the public can use to protect themselves.
As a matter of urgency, he tasked the District Health Directorate, the Education Service, the Environmental and Sanitation Unit, National Commission on Civic Education and the Information Services Department to commence education and sensitization in all communities, in various dialects for all to comprehend the gravity of the matter at hand.
A task force was also constituted to enforce the compliance to the presidents’ directives to suspend all public gatherings which includes churches, funerals, weddings and all other forms of social gatherings which has more than thirty (30) participants. The Ghana Police Service, the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and other security services are fronting this task force to ensure the safety of the general public.
He assured that the GPRTU in charge of public transport has taken pragmatic measures to ensure the safety of all commuters. The union in the District is ensuring all drivers sanitize the hands of their passengers before boarding the vehicle. Any driver who flouts this directive would not be allowed to load passengers at the station.
As chairman of the committee, he called on all not to panic but remain calm and practice frequent hand washing, covering of mouth whilst coughing or sneezing and restrict themselves from unnecessary social gatherings. He assured that in the near few days local contact hotlines would be provided for suspected cases in the District to augment the national contact lines.
The Poly Clinic he said is prepared to handle all suspected cases professionally before transferring to Tema General Hospital or the Greater Accra Regional Hospital for treatment.
