The Ningo-Prampram Environmental Health Department has led a team of stakeholders to organize a cleanup exercise within the Dawhenya Township on Tuesday, the exercise marked the launch of the campaign in the district. The campaign which was launched by the Greater Accra Regional Minister is aimed at keeping the city clean. The campaign from next year will see to the enforcement of sanitation regulations in the city as part of the Make Accra Work Again Agenda. The District Chief Executive Hon. Al-Latiff Amanor came to inspect the exercise, he encouraged residents to be part of the exercise, he said the exercise will be a game changer to the problem of poor environmental sanitation in the district, he added that good sanitation and cleanliness were related to healthy living.
The exercise begun at around 6:30 am, shop owners along the street did not open their businesses but joined in the exercise, Zoomlion Ghana limited and their workers were present, the town youth who were mobilized by their opinion leaders and assembly members were seen engaged in the exercise. Management of the Ningo-Prampram District Assembly, the Coordinating Director, and Heads of Departments also observed and took part in the exercise. The District Environmental Health Officer madam Evelyn Nani was happy the exercise was a success, she said the cleanup exercise was used to mark the launch of the “Clean your frontage campaign” .Going forward, she added, residents are expected to make it a daily habit to keep their frontage clean. Starting from next year February, environmental health officers will be accompanied by security personnel from the district police force to go round to promote the enforcement of the campaign law, which has already been passed. Chocked gutters along the main road were desilted, others commuters and drivers observed the process causing a major traffic on 5kilometer stretch of the dawhenya road. The exercise ended at about 3pm.
