A 53 year old farmer, Mr. John Kwesi Manyabi, a resident of Tsopoli was adjudged the 2025 overall best farmer for the Ningo-Prampram District. With about 51 acres of land, Mr. Manyabi can boast of various acres of crops, a large number livestock, and workers which contribute to the socio economic development of the District.
For his prize he was given a tricycle, a double decker fridge, a NASCO flat screen television, Wellington boot, wax print, cutlasses and various agro inputs. This year’s price items were an improvement to the previous years, highlighted the importance the government has placed on agriculture.
This year’s 41st Celebration was held at at Mobole D/A School park, to honour the invaluable contributions of farmers within the District.
The celebration with the theme, “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future”, brought together a diverse gathering including farmer groups, traditional authorities, assembly members of the District, heads of departments, security personnels, health officials, the clergy, teachers, students, the press, and community members as a whole.
The event was graced by the Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram Constituency, Hon. Sam Nartey George, and chaired by Nene Tetteh Waka II, Paramount Chief of Prampram Traditional Council, alongside Nene Djangmah Osoragbo XII and Naa Osabu Abbey, Queen Mother of Prampram Traditional Council.
The Chairman of the celebration expressed his satisfaction with the impressive display of foodstuff by the farmers and encouraged them to maintain their hard work. He also urged the youth to join the agriculture industry, emphasizing its benefits to both individuals and the nation.
The MP, Hon. Sam Nartey George congratulated the farmers as he took the opportunity to plead on the two paramount chiefs to take urgent steps to end land litigations that existed in many parts of the Constituency. He announced the “nkukor nkitinkiti” program by government, professing strategies to the Assembly on rolling it out successfully, recognizing the need for all the twenty-two (22) electoral areas of the Assembly to benefit from it. The MP and Minister, didn’t hesitate to mention the BIG PUSH by government and stated that the contractor promised to complete the Afienya-Dodowa road which forms part of the project as well as the promise to fix the broken Dawa dam as soon as possible.
The District Chief Executive, Hon. Raphael Uriel Nartey, emphasized the importance of local production, stating: “When we prioritize what we grow, we are not only boosting our local economy but also creating jobs and reducing our dependence on imported foods and poultry products.”
He announced substantial support for farmers, including the 1,000 to 5,000 birds with feeds and medication for poultry farmers, and free fertilizers for crop farmers. The DCE congratulated the award winners and commended their resilience.
The District Agriculture Director, Mr. Prince Boateng, acknowledged the presence of all attendees, especially the farmers, and announced this year’s theme: “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future.”
He reported that the district recorded significantly higher agricultural performance compared to last year, attributing this success to favorable weather conditions and other positive factors. He also highlighted the successful anti-rabies campaign, which included sensitization and vaccination exercises for 338 pets.
However, Mr. Boateng noted persistent challenges including the conversion of agricultural lands to estate developments and the collapse of the Dawa dam, issues that require urgent attention.
Twelve exceptional farmers were honored across various categories, including Best Female Farmer and Best Physically Challenged Farmer. Prizes included a tricycle, tabletop fridge, pumping machine, wax prints, Wellington boots, polytank, protective clothing, wheelbarrow, cutlass, flat screen TV, double-decker fridge, herbicides, insecticides, fertilizers, and more.
The Overall Best Farmer, Mr. John Kwesi Manyabi, expressed his gratitude to the authorities for recognizing his dedication and resilience in agriculture. He encouraged the youth to embrace farming, describing it as a profitable and reputable profession.
The celebration featured free health screening and impressive displays of farm produce including rice, watermelon, tilapia, pepper, and various agricultural inputs.
